Lloyd Robertson kept his place in Clyde’s starting line-up tonight for his third consecutive start in all competitions as they travelled to East End Park to face Dunfermline Athletic in their final Betfred Cup Group Stage match.
After Danny Lennon’s side impressed in the same competition in midweek against Kilmarnock, their final task was against a strong Championship side in Dunfermline Athletic. Having come close against Falkirk and Kilmarnock, Clyde had the opportunity to secure third spot in the group with a victory tonight.
The visitors started well however it was the home side that came close first when Declan McManus got his head to the ball after it ricocheted around the area, but it lacked power and was saved easily by Matej Vajs.
Clyde took the lead 35 minutes into the first half. Ally Love got on the end of Ross Cunningham’s flick on and fired the ball under the body of Cammy Gill. The then doubled their advantage after 53 minutes when Mark Lamont won back possession for the visitors, played a one-two with David Goodwillie before rifling the ball into the back of the net with his left foot.
Dunfermline had an uphill battle to climb but were given a lifeline on the hour mark when the visiting goalkeeper Vajs fouled Kevin O’Hara who despatched the resulting penalty. With 3 of the 90 minutes left, Ryan Dow got in behind Clyde’s backline and set up Declan McManus to score his second of the evening.
Stevie Crawford’s men hadn’t finished there, and in the first minute of stoppage time Kyle Turner’s floated free-kick was flicked on by Paul Watson and slipped through Vajs’ gloves and into the net to give the hosts all three points.
