We are thrilled to announce Sean McGinty’s move to Hamilton Academical on a permanent deal following his release from Ayr United.
Sean has been in Scotland for the past 6 years and has spent time at Partick Thistle, Morton, and most recently Ayr United who he captained to a 7th place finish last season.
Hamilton made their return to the Scottish Championship under the leadership of John Rankin after a one-year absence, defeating Inverness CT in the Playoff Final back in May having finished as runners up in the league behind title winners Falkirk. Rankin and his staff have already started preparation with the signings of Charlie Albinson, Barry Maguire, Steven Bradley and now Sean McGinty ahead of the new season kicking off on the 3rd August.
Speaking on signing at New Douglas Park Sean said: “I am delighted to sign for Hamilton for the next two seasons. I can’t wait to get going in the coming days and look forward to seeing everyone at New Douglas Park when the season kicks off.”
After capturing the 30-year-old central defender, manager John Rankin was pleased with the signing and is confident Sean’s presence in the Hamilton defence can help his side be competitive in the league this season: “I’m really pleased to get Sean in. He’s a powerful defender with plenty of experience in the league and is another leader with a voice.”
“He likes the physical side of the game and isn’t afraid to put his body on the line for the team, so I’m really looking forward to working with him and getting him in with the boys for pre-season.”
Hamilton mark their return to the Scottish Championship where they host McGinty’s old side Ayr United before their first trip at Morton a week later. A double header at home will be next where Dunfermline Athletic and then Airdrie will visit New Douglas Park towards the end of August before difficult tests on the road in September at Livingston and Raith Rovers follow.
Good luck at Hamilton Sean!
