We are delighted to announce the signing of 22-year-old goalkeeper Max Johnstone.
The former Manchester United academy player spent last season in Perthshire at Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone as he gained much valuable experience under former manager Tommy Wright.
Max left Fleetwood Town in the summer of 2016 and joined the Premier League giants at the age of 18 where he worked with goalkeepers such as Kieran O’Hara, David De Gea as well as his brother Sam. Having made 4 appearances in the U18 Premier League for Man UTD, Max went on to make a further appearance in the Premier League 2 Division before departing the club for Sunderland at the end of the 2017/2018 season.
Joining Sunderland on a free transfer in 2018, Max continued his development under former manager Jack Ross. Training everyday with current Scottish International goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin, Johnstone went on to make seven appearances for the club in Premier League 2. After 12 months at ‘the Black Cats’ Max moved north to Scotland.
Signing with St Johnstone on a one-year deal in July 2019, Max joined up with first team goalkeepers Zander Clark and Elliott Parish where he looked to gain some more valuable experience as he continued his development. His only appearance for the club came against Cove Rangers in the Challenge Cup First Round on the 8th June 2019.
Everyone at Superior Sports looks forward to working with Max in the future.
