We are delighted to announce that Joe Besant has today completed his move to Ireland, signing with Larne FC. The 21-year-old is ready to bolster Tiernan Lynch’s squad after signing at Inver Park as he looks to compete with Rohan Ferguson and Dylan Graham for the goalkeeping spot at the club.
Joe’s footballing journey started in Bournemouth, where he honed his skills as a promising young goalkeeper. His career took a significant turn when he moved to Portugal spending time at several different clubs including Alverca, gaining valuable experience at first team level. His experience in Portugal’s competitive environment will bring a fresh perspective to Larne’s goalkeeping lineup.
Larne manager Tiernan Lynch is in the process of building a squad capable of handling a busy schedule that includes both domestic league matches and now European matches following the club’s qualification into the UEFA Europa Conference League Phase, the first time Larne have entered a European competition in the club’s history. Besant’s signing will add depth and competition to the goalkeeping department which will be important for the squad over the season with both domestic and European fixtures ahead.
Joe sat down with the club at Inver Park following his arrival and explained his delight on the opportunity he has been given and, on the challenge, ahead of him. “I’m very excited to be here and you can see this is a club on the up.”
“The infrastructure is always improving; the club is well run, and you can see what the team is achieving. Every goalkeeper wants to fight for that number one shirt, but you also need that good environment to train with everyone and I think we have that here.”
First Team Manager Tiernan Lynch was also pleased with Joe’s addition to the group. “We’re always on the lookout to make every department of the squad even stronger and Joe arrives to help us do that with the goalkeepers.”
“It’s no secret that we have a busy schedule ahead of us, in the next few months especially, so growing the squad is important for us.”
We were delighted to help Joe with securing his deal as he embarks on the next stage of his career, and we wish both Joe and Larne the very best for the remainder of the season.
