Ross Callachan – “I’m personally gutted, but we need to take positives from today. We got beat but today’s the best we’ve played in a long time. We need to kick on, starting with Aberdeen on Wednesday.”
After a disappointing midweek defeat at Stranraer in the Betfred Cup, Hamilton were back on league duty this afternoon as they travelled to Tannadice to face an in form Dundee United side.
An evenly contested first half prevented any clear cut chances. Marios Ogkompoe’s header in the early stages was off target before Nicky Clark’s free kick was put wide which was the closest both teams had come in the opening half.
The game came to life just after an hour. Scott McMann delivered a perfect ball to the back post for Callachan to nip in and head past Siegrist. However, 10 minutes later the hosts were level when Liam Smith found space down the right and his cross picked out Nicky Clark to volley past Fulton in goal.
With 20 minutes left, Micky Mellon’s side got the winner. McNulty helped on a high ball forward for Clark who volleyed into the back of the net from the edge of the box.
