Lee Ashcroft netted late equaliser this afternoon to rescue a valuable point for James McPake’s men as they came from behind against Greenock Morton.
After Aidan Nesbitt put the visitors ahead on 79 minutes it looked likely that they would take all three points however Ashcroft struck late on to level proceedings.
Dundee named an unchanged line-up after a promising victory at Ayr UTD last week and although the home side were dominant in possession, they could not create any clear-cut chances. A frustrating opening 45 for Dundee with no reward for their possession ended goalless.
Even though they did improve after the interval and a few openings were created through Jason Cummings and Paul McMullan they still could not find the back of the net.
Gus MacPherson’s side offered very little in the forward areas of the park, but it was his men who struck first as they came to life in the closing stages of the match. Lewis Strapp’s 20-yard shot was saved by Legzdins but Nesbitt followed up to open the scoring.
McPake’s men cranked up the pressure with minutes left in snowy conditions at Dens Park and the leveller did come from none other than Lee Ashcroft.
Only minutes were left when Paul McGowan’s corner was swung towards Ashcroft who headed towards goal only for Markus Fjortoft to clear. The Dundee defender stayed in the final third and his reward did come when Osman Sow nodded on from McGowan’s lofted ball and Ashcroft was there stabbing his shot past the keeper with 88 minutes on the clock.
Dundee 1-1 Greenock Morton FT
Next up for Dundee is a trip to Dunfermline Athletic on Tuesday evening. Kick off is at 7pm.
