Raith Captain Brown Grabs Winner

Scott Brown’s late second half goal clinched all three points against Ayr United.

Scott Brown smashed home the winner from the edge of the box to rescue all three points for Raith Rovers in today’s Scottish Championship match, which proved to be a highly intense encounter with the visitors sitting top of the table after an impressive start to the season under Lee Bullen.

Ayr arrived at Stark’s Park unbeaten in the league so far this season but were behind 8 minutes in after Kyle Connell’s early opener. Sam Stanton doubled the home side’s lead ten minutes before the break however second half goals from Brad Young and Andy Murdoch brought the visiting team back on level terms.

With just seven minutes left on the clock, Raith captain Scott Brown smashed home the winner from the edge of the box and into the bottom corner.

Ayr remain joint top of the table with Partick Thistle after today’s result and as for Ian Murray’s men, they move into sixth position just two points outside of the playoff positions.

It’s the Third Round of the SPFL Trust Trophy up next for both teams. Brown will lead his side to face Cove Rangers next week. As for client Sean McGinty and Ayr United, they next face Greenock Morton on Friday night.
